RICHMOND, VA — On Sunday, February 16, 2020, the House Appropriations Committee released their budget for the biennium, increasing funding for health and human resources by $1.2 billion from the current 2018-2020 budget, and about $40 million more than the Governor’s introduced budget.

ALEXANDRIA, VA– The Supreme Court takes final action to confirm constituional maps for the Virginia House of Delegates. In a 5-4 ruling for the case, Virginia House of Delegates v. Bethune-Hill, the majority opinion stated that Republicans lack standing in their appeal of racially gerrymandered districts. Justice Ginsburg gave the majority opinion, joined by Justice Thomas, Justice Gorsuch, Justice Sotomayor, and Justice Kagan.
ALEXANDRIA, VA- On May 13, Delegate Sickles recognized and memorialized Wesley Charles Lipicky, a nine year old boy killed in a tragic school accident one year ago this month. HB 1753 was ceremonially signed into law at the Franconia Firehouse by Governor Ralph Northam. The bill’s provisions, if followed by school divisions across the Commonwealth, will prevent another such accident from ever occurring.

HB 1250 provides the State Board of Elections, through the Department and the Commissioner of Elections, authority to ensure the retraining of local electoral boards and general registrars who have not complied with all applicable state and federal, laws and regulations.
